about

"Dry Bones is a call to look around at your community and society at large and begin to identify where we may have gone wrong. How can we chart a new course that better honours the inherent dignity and sanctity of human and non-human life? The track turns on the idea of seeing clearly the flaws in a troubled society with eyes unclouded by fear. Only by facing the tragedy and injustice around us can we begin to craft a brighter, more inclusive future together, rooted in the belief in the potential of a better future for our planet and its inhabitants." - The Rookies

Dry Bones is an odyssey of crackling grooves and fiery horns passing through deep valleys and over high peaks. Drawing musical inspiration from the rhythmic worlds of African and Afro-Cuban drumming, and the through-composed musical storylines of progressive rock, Dry Bones unfolds through shimmering harmony like a desert flower from parched soil. Mirages of influence from jazz’s boldest navigators such as Herbie Hancock and John Mclaughlin can be made out through a distinctly Australian haze.

about

The Rookies Melbourne, Australia

The Rookies were born in the spring of 2014 on the forgotten end of Brunswick Street in a room full of sweat, beer and dim lights at The Rooks Return. What started as a quiet set of background jazz for punters while they imbibed their cocktails quickly devolved into an uninhibited, drunken dance party reminiscent of a time almost forgotten...

The Rookies are Jazz, but not like you know it.
